Matthew 9:9-13. Jesus radically went against the culture of the times by actually eating with sinners… tax collectors… and prostitutes! Eating in 1st century Israel meant so much more than filling up your stomach. It meant friendship… it meant fellowship… It meant connection to someone. Any good Rabbi would never be caught dead eating with the kinds of people Jesus ate with. Christians have always been a faith that is “SENT”. God brings us in, then sends us out. One of the ways can effectively love our neighbor and tangibly show them the love of Christ is to show them Radical Hospitality. Jesus modeled this when he ate meals on a regular basis with Tax Collectors and Prostitutes.
